In a surprise announcement at the Kandos Seniors Week Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on February 15, Kandos Rylstone Community Radio KRR 98.7 FM has taken out the 2019 Senior’s Award in recognition of their achievements in supporting the community. In presenting the award Mid-Western Regional Councillor, Esme Martens said: “The local radio station, which is located in Kandos’s main street is currently celebrating 25 years since it began and many of its members and presenters are seniors. KRR is a very popular station playing a diverse range of music that people of all ages appreciate. They also broadcast lots of community announcements for groups and organisations throughout the district and support many charities with live on air interviews and promotional material.”
In accepting the award on behalf of members, KRR President Brent Barlow thanked Mid-Western Regional Council and the Kandos Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association.
“Our members will be absolutely thrilled by this award. We have many seniors doing shows on KRR, some of them are in their 80’s. Our doors are always open for members of all ages. If anyone here today would like to come and do their own show you will be made very welcome. Thank you everyone for this wonderful award.”
